Do you feel like social media and dating apps have made relationships more superficial?
Do you get anxiety about how you come across, and first impressions?
Do you feel pressure to “perform” when getting to know someone?
It feels like technology was promised as a means of connection but only made us feel further apart – from each other, but also from ourselves.
Body image issues run rampant, especially among younger women.
Comparison games are brutal and soul crushing.
Porn has infiltrated at all levels, and has people confused about what “normal” sexual encounters are “supposed to be like.”
Sounds hopeless, I know! Not a great vibe in the room right now. (Sorry.)
BUT … know that you are not alone! And there are people who ALSO want to get to know someone beyond images and shallow interactions. I hear it in my office every day. People are yearning for a NEW way to meet and communicate – which, in essence, is a return to OLD ways of communicating. Less posturing and hiding behind screens, more direct questions and honesty.

The comparison game and the apps and websites have everyone chasing fantasies – and when reality hits, neither party is pleased.
It’s time to push past the peer pressure to “get on the apps” or act like you think you’re “supposed to,” and return to your true self. There is a match out there, for everyone! But if you’re pretending, and so are they, how will you two ever ACTUALLY realize how alike you truly are?
But first, we have to acknowledge your patterns and tendencies. You may be doing to others the exact thing we fear being done to you.
Additionally, you have to make clear your own boundaries, goals and expectations. For instance, what is the definition of “cheating” in this new digital landscape? What are your beliefs around sex, monogamy and gender norms?
Furthermore, should you “ease into” openness and honesty slowly, or just “come in hot” with total transparency? On the one hand, you two just met, so perhaps we should build trust and comfort; on the other hand, why waste time and develop feelings if there isn’t a fit of values and lifestyle?
If you’ve ever found yourself questioning how to navigate dating in today’s digital world, you’re not alone – and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
This is exactly why we created the Love Lab Workshop designed to help you better understand modern dating, build meaningful connections, and approach relationships with more clarity and confidence.
Join us for our first Love Lab Workshop on May 30th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM here at Coral Gables Counseling Center.
This workshop is open to all singles—men and women—who are ready to approach dating more intentionally.
While we’ll focus on heterosexual dynamics, the insights and tools are valuable for anyone looking to build healthier, more authentic connections.
If you’re ready to date with more clarity, confidence, and purpose, we’d love to have you join us. Reserve your space by calling our office at 305-445-0477 or emailing us at info@coralgablescounseling.com
