A Reflection – Clarity and Inner Peace

If you are or were a client or you’ve read my blogs, you know I’m all about clarity.  In fact, one of my words for 2020 was Clarity.  They were Clarity, Vision and Purpose.

I believe if we have clarity

  • we make better decisions;
  • we can see our way forward past any obstacle; and
  • we can see a world of possibilities that without the same clarity we may not.

This picture of two of my grandsons, reminded me of when I lose Clarity and then find it again.  I’m a mess without it but when I get it back I walk around with a big smile on my face.

Something that has given me more clarity recently, has been inner peace.

A client told me the other day that talking to me relaxes her.  She asked me how I can be so peaceful.

My response was very simple.  I’m very intentional about making sure I have my peace regardless of what is going on in the world.

I may not be able to control external circumstances but what I know for sure is that I control what goes on internally.

  • I have control over my thoughts;
  • I have control over what I do in my life;
  • I have control over what I bring into my life; and
  • I have control over who I bring into my life.

Following is what I have done that has helped me create my peace.  They may also help you create your own.

  • I’ve incorporated daily prayer.  I joined a prayer group with my sister.  It’s our thing now.  Something I look forward to every week.  We have dinner just the two of us then we go to the prayer group.  Daily prayer is what showed up for me but for you it may show up as daily quiet meditation, daily quiet moments of contemplation, daily quiet walks, daily quiet bike rides.  The key here is “quiet.”
  • Spend time with people that bring you happiness and joy.  For me it’s my husband, my kids, my grandkids, my siblings and my girlfriends.  Who are those people for you?
  • Quieting anxious thoughts that may come up by not ignoring them.  Life is 50/50.  It’s not always happiness and joy.  Sometimes it’s sadness and stress.  Where is the anxiety coming from and is there anything you can do to resolve the issue?  If not, then accept and move on.

Hopefully some of these resonate for you.  But if you’re thinking, “Nah, these are not for me.” Then I invite you to create your own path to bring the inner peace that will add more clarity to your life.

Note: I wrote a blog in July 2020 just a few months after the pandemic began.  Although it was written during Covid it has some thoughts around clarity, vision and purpose which still make sense today.  Here is the link – Enjoy! https://www.coralgablescounseling.com/clarity-vision/
