Life happens because life is 50/50.
We’re going to have both good and bad experiences.
We’re going to have positive and negative thoughts and feelings.
This is normal. It is part of the human experience.
Clients come to me stressed and anxious wanting help bouncing back.
Back to enjoying their job or career the way they used to;
Back to enjoying their partner the way they used to;
Back to the days when their life was less complicated;
Back to a second chance to do things differently.
But instead, why not bounce forward?
Forward to new thoughts about how to do their job or career differently.
Forward to new thoughts about how to see their partner.
Forward to new thoughts about how to create a new life.
Forward to new thoughts about how to do things differently without needing a second chance.
“Bouncing back” is about going back to the old. It is about going back to the way things used to be. But going back to the way things used to be is not possible. Life experiences both – good and bad – change us in a way that bouncing back doesn’t make sense anymore.
“Bouncing back” does not require the work of the conscious brain. Instead, the unconscious brain looks to old habits, old memories, and old ways of doing things so it can repeat the cycle and help you bounce back to the same old, same old.
When we open ourselves up to “bouncing forward” and the world of possibilities, the muscle in our conscious brain wakes up. It comes up with new and fresh ideas, and it lights up.
So how do we wake up the conscious brain?
- Put your phone on airplane mode for 15 minutes.
- Sit with pen and paper and do a thought download. What new things can you do in your life to bounce forward?
- Pick one to start working on.
- How do you have to feel to begin taking action?
- What actions do you have to take?
- Celebrate your result.
- Start over with another thought from your list and repeat.
Go on now. Bounce forward!
