Getting What You Want

There are two steps to getting what you want:

1) Knowing what you want; and
2) Taking intentional steps to get it

Both are about self awareness.

So, what do you want?

Not what are you supposed to want or think you may be able to reasonably expect.

Don’t immediately think of family or friends, ignoring yourself.

Those beliefs skip over the actual desire and melt into the external world of judgment or expectation. Simply start with honest desire. If you meet a genie and are offered three wishes, what do you ask for?!

Then, knowing your strengths and weaknesses, how are you going to go about getting what you want? (With no magic genie).

Here is the second pitfall, where people make either grandiose plans that don’t consider who you really are, or people simply have no plan at all and “hope it will all work out.”

Wrong! We need self awareness and intention, again.

Who are you? Are you someone who realistically will wake up at 5:00 A.M. every day, or who is comfortable speaking to crowds, or whatever the plan requires to get to your goal?!

Does your lifestyle afford the freedom of time or access to act on your desired plan?

·      Play to your strengths;

·      set yourself up for success; and

·      have a plan.

One must make a change … to expect any change to occur. Simply deciding does not result in a change. There must be a shift in behavior as well. A way to make the want a reality.

All this to say that mindful living is more than simply wandering the Earth in a peaceful state.

It also means purposeful living.
Conscious choosing.
Intentional actions.

All of which bring peace and happiness. And a clearer acceptance of your whole self.

And maybe it’s not about getting what you want, but getting what you need 😉
