Psychoeducational Testing

Why is Psychoeducational Testing Important?

Psychoeducational testing is conducted to help assess a wide variety of difficulties that a child may be facing in the school setting. As a small local practice, Coral Gables Counseling Center (CGCC) is able to provide a more personalized and intimate testing experience tailored to your child’s individual needs.

The school psychologist at CGCC, Cristina M. Olaechea, Ed.S., has an extensive background in education with many years of experience in the public school system. She specializes in comprehensive psychoeducational testing for children and adolescents from Prekindergarten through Grade 12. If your child is having trouble with academic performance, attending skills, interpersonal relationships, or school behavior, it is likely that he/she may benefit from an evaluation to assess the nature of these struggles and analyze personal strengths and weaknesses. Educational testing can be especially useful for students who need certain accommodations during classes or exams, as well as those who could benefit from a more challenging learning environment.

Mrs. Olaechea also has over 15 years of experience working with young children ages 3 to 5. When caregivers suspect that a young child is experiencing delays in language, social-emotional, fine motor, gross motor, and/or cognitive functioning, a developmental screening or assessment may be warranted. Early intervention is KEY and taking a proactive approach to addressing possible delays can provide a child with a more positive and productive school experience!

Types of Evaluations Offered at CGCC:

In the child’s best interest, Mrs. Olaechea utilizes an individualized approach to testing. Specific instruments to be used are selected based on an interview with parents, child, and/or teacher. The assessments could include any of the following areas:

  • Learning Difficulties (Reading, Writing, Mathematics)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Behavioral Difficulties
  • Gifted/Intelligence (IQ) Testing
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Developmental Testing / Prekindergarten Evaluations
  • Developmental Screenings

Fees, Terms of Payment, and Insurance:

Testing fees include the initial parent interview, direct contact hours spent administering the battery of tests, scoring/interpreting assessments, a comprehensive written report with practical and specific recommendations, and a feedback meeting to review test results with parents or caregivers.  The fee for testing depends on the battery of tests Mrs. Olaechea deems appropriate or necessary for the child.

Cash, check or credit cards are acceptable forms of payment.  As a courtesy to our patients, CGCC will gladly submit an out-of-network claim form to insurance companies upon request.  We offer this service for the convenience of our patients.  It is up to the discretion of the insurance company whether or not they will reimburse patients for a portion of the fee paid to CGCC.

Please contact CGCC at (305) 445-0477 for information regarding the testing fee, as this fee varies depending on the age of the child and the battery of tests given.

If you are unsure about whether or not your child could benefit from an evaluation, Mrs. Olaechea will be happy to provide you with a brief, complimentary phone consultation.

CGCC has a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you do not cancel your appointment within this timeframe, you will be responsible for the session fee.
