Dr. Elie Crystal

Recovery from mental illness sometimes requires more than counseling, more than therapy, more than developing a caring community around you, and more than the hard work that you have put in working on yourself. Sometimes medication is what’s needed to get you back ‘on track’ and to allow you to achieve your goals.

“It is my mission to provide a careful diagnosis and to make evidence-based recommendations to allow full recovery from episodes of mental illness. As part of that process, I actively engage with you, your child and adolescent, and your family in a collaborative process toward full recovery.”

Dr. Elie Crystal is a medical doctor who treats children, adolescents, and adults for their mental health needs. He obtained his medical degree at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his adult psychiatry residency in Chicago, Illinois and his Child and Adolescent psychiatry fellowship at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Crystal was born in Chicago, IL and has lived and worked with diverse communities and is passionate about psychology, psychiatry, literature, mindfulness meditation, and self-growth. His background in the liberal arts and passion for the field places healing, recovery, and growth as the ultimate aims in psychiatric care.

As a Board-Certified Adult and Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist in public and private practice, he treats a variety of mental health issues, from ADHD, anxiety, failure to launch, and family discord, to problems such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and OCD.  He offers an individualized comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and develops a treatment plan guided by the needs and circumstances of the individual patient and family. He provides patient education, supportive psychotherapy, utilizing both psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral modalities, including CBT, DBT, psychodynamic supportive therapy, family systems-oriented therapy, and Motivational Interviewing as part of the process. Referrals are made as indicated for the patient. Your recovery, with the help of psychiatric interventions, is the shared goal.
