Katheryne Puentes is a Florida board-certified Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Marriage and Family Therapist, certified in Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), and certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). Katheryne completed her Master’s in Counseling with a concentration in Mental Health and her PhD in Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University.
Katheryne is a 4th degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and has been training since she was six years old. She participated in Olympic-style Taekwondo sparring and forms. She participated in AAU Nationals and competed in tournaments throughout the US. Katheryne was an AAU Nationals Team Member, Miami Taekwondo Federation Team Member, and Florida State Taekwondo Team. She also participates in obstacle racing and generally loves athletics. She incorporates a lot of what she learned in her martial arts background within her therapy sessions; mindset is vital.
Katheryne has experience working with couples, children, teens, adults, and their families, utilizing various models and techniques. She utilizes multiple methods to personalize therapy for the client’s needs. Katheryne may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Bowenian Therapy Techniques, Play Therapy Techniques, Art Therapy Techniques, and Evidence-Based Practices.
Katheryne specializes with clients that suffer from anxiety, depression, trauma, as well as an extensive range of challenges including but not limited to crisis, adjustment concerns, addiction, family relationships, a wide range of diagnosis, and grief/loss. She has guided many families with parenting concerns, teen concerns, children’s behavioral concerns, and relationship/communication building. This process is collaborative, meaning everything will be personalized to your needs and experiences.
