Deciding what to write in October is hard

Why?…because I feel as a breast cancer survivor – I should write about breast cancer

But I did that last year and the year before

This year – I don’t want to

This was hard – to decide not to

It was hard because once I got breast cancer – and survived it – I felt like breast cancer defined me

tumor, left breast gone, chemo, hair gone

BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR IS WHO I AM

And – as it sometimes happens

I was sitting with the white computer screen in front of me – I got a text from a friend of mine with this picture of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach all lit up in pink with a note

“National Breast Cancer Awareness Month = Pink Fontainebleau

My response “Beautiful! Thank you for thinking of me my friend…”

Her response

“This doesn’t define you, it was a journey that you took and are stronger because of it. The pink was something we can all appreciate. The world is aware & hopefully fighting for a cure. 🦄”

Life experiences that happen to us are just that – life experiences – they teach us, they strengthen us – but they are not who we are

So – although I didn’t want to write about breast cancer again this October – I thought my friend’s message was worth sharing…

OVER TO YOU:

What “defining” experiences have you had in your life?
Did you feel stronger from having experienced them?
Did you learn from them?
