A Year Lived Intentionally

As the year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on family and friends. It has been a year of reconnection, deeper communication, personal growth, and intentional self-care.

The year began with the birth of my only granddaughter, Luna Lucía. Holding her for the first time, I felt the continuation of the bonds between the women in my family—a rebirth of hope and promise. She arrived not only as a new life, but as a powerful reminder of continuity, resilience, and the quiet strength that carries a family forward across generations.

This year also marked a milestone of a different kind: my husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. Twenty-five years of shared history with the man who married me and my three children. Twenty-five years of growing, learning, weathering challenges, and choosing one another through every season. It was a moment to pause and appreciate the depth that only time can create—the gift of being truly known, the trust built over years, and the gratitude that comes with a partnership that has matured with grace.

Time has a way of clarifying what truly matters, and this year gently reminded me that relationships—nurtured with intention—are at the heart of a meaningful life.

It was also a year of reconnection. I made a conscious effort to reach out to my girlfriends.  Women who have known me through different chapters and seasons of life. Some friendships picked up right where we left off; others deepened in new and unexpected ways.

There is something profoundly grounding about being with people who know your story, who remind you of who you are, and who walk beside you with honesty and laughter. These connections didn’t happen by accident. They happened because I made space for them, and that intention made all the difference.

My connections this year extended beyond family and longtime friends. I also invested in a year-long, in-person mastermind, where I formed meaningful new friendships and professional connections.  The relationships I’ve welcomed during this season of both personal and business growth have been a source of mutual support.

This year also brought loss. We unexpectedly lost friends, a sobering reminder of how fragile and precious life is. Their passing made the call to be present, to reach out, to connect, and to not postpone what matters, feel even more urgent.

This year, I was also intentional about looking inward. I took time to recognize my wins, while also asking myself where I could grow. I committed to caring for my body and well-being with greater intention, understanding that self-care is not indulgent.  It is essential.

This year taught me that life isn’t measured only by milestones, but by moments of presence: conversations that linger, shared laughter, and the simple act of showing up. Family, friendship, and connection.  These are the anchors that carry us through every season.

As I look ahead, I do so with gratitude for the people who shaped this year and with a renewed commitment to love more intentionally, connect more deeply, and never take the gift of relationships for granted.

As you close out this year, take a moment to ask yourself:

  • Who showed up for me this year—and who did I show up for?
  • Where did I feel most connected, and where do I want to be more intentional next year?
  • What relationships deserve more of my time and care in the year ahead?

Wishing all of you, the Coral Gables Counseling Center community, a beautiful holiday season!
